April is Alcohol Awareness Month

McCall partners with Gabby Bernstein to raise awareness for Alcohol Awareness Month and Mental Health Awareness Month in May.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(TORRINGTON, CT) – April 13, 2023 – The McCall Behavioral Health Network has partnered with #1 New York Times bestselling author, international speaker, podcast host, and newly appointed board member, Gabby Bernstein, to raise awareness for equitable access to mental health and substance use disorder treatment in Connecticut.

The campaign launched on April 10th on Bernstein’s podcast, Dear Gabby episode 130, “Why you need to watch out for Gurus.”  She shares how her recovery journey led her to join McCall as a board member to help others on their journey toward wellness and healing.  Now through the campaign, she inspires her listeners to give the gift of hope through a donation to McCall.

“We are honored and grateful for Gabby’s support and partnership,” said Maria Coutant Skinner, LCSW, President and CEO.  “One in every 12 Americans is struggling with an alcohol use disorder, a trend which is increasingly common among women.  Connecting to Gabby’s followers is a gift. Not only are we able to increase awareness and reduce the stigma around the disorders, but also let the public know there is best in class help available for all right here in Connecticut, regardless of a person’s ability to pay to for services.”

Gabby has 17.5 years in recovery and, like McCall, believes that substance use is a coping mechanism for unresolved pain. Leading up to Mental Health Awareness Month in May, Bernstein will continue to share her story and how her service to others would not have been possible without access to behavioral health treatment.

“One in five Americans today has a mental health disorder and I am thrilled to support McCall as they continue to show up for others,” said Gabby Bernstein.  “Everyone deserves a chance to heal and live a life in recovery and if you walk through their doors, you will receive services. Period. Even a small gift will help people transform their lives and give hope to many who at one time or another have felt hopeless.”
