Outpatient Treatment Groups

McCall believes whole-heartedly in the power of connection in helping individuals heal and recover. Through our wide range of outpatient treatment groups, participants have the undeniable understanding that they’re not alone in their recovery and they have the support they need to succeed. Learn more about each of our outpatient treatment groups below.

Intensive Outpatient Program
  • Utilizes Hazeldon’s Living in Balance model, a research-based, practical, substance use treatment curriculum that helps individuals address issues in lifestyle areas that may have been neglected during addiction 
  • Designed for individuals in early recovery who require a concentrated treatment program including group therapy and educational sessions, with an emphasis on supporting the skills necessary to maintain sobriety
  • Separate men’s and women’s groups, as well as co-ed groups are available
  • Participants learn to identify situations that trigger cravings and pinpoint the decisions that can lead to substance use, develop immediate alternatives to substance use, and implement a long-term plan for recovery
  • Random tox screens are conducted
  • Meets three times per week for five weeks, and participants are expected to attend all 15 sessions 
  • Successful completion of the IOP program is based on participation, attendance, and progress
Anger Management
  • Follows SAMHSA’s Anger Management for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Clients Curriculum and utilizes cognitive behavioral techniques necessary to successfully manage anger
  • Focuses on concepts including triggers for anger, emotions masked as anger, assertive communication, and alternatives to anger
  • Meets weekly in 60-minute group sessions
  • Open-ended 12-week program
Relapse Prevention Group 
  • Follows Hazelden’s Matrix model
  • Focus continues on identifying relapse triggers, building prevention skills, and addressing issues that come with early recovery
  • Based on the premises that: relapse is not a random event; the process of relapse follows predictable patterns, and signs of impending relapse can be identified. 
  • Meets weekly in 60-minute group sessions
  • Participation length of time is based on individual needs 
12 Step Facilitation for Co-occurring Disorders (TSF-COD)
  • Designed for individuals with both a substance use disorder and mental illness
  • Provides the background, guidance, and skills needed to combine the practices of motivational enhancement, cognitive behavior therapy, and Twelve-Step Facilitation
  • Supports individuals in learning to manage both illnesses effectively so that they can pursue personally meaningful life goals
  • Recommended that participants also engage in 12-step meetings in addition to group attendance
  • Meets weekly in 60-minute group sessions
  • Participation length of time is based on individual needs 
Helping Men Recover
  • Gender-specific men’s treatment group 
  • Continues to strengthen relapse prevention skills in the action and maintenance stages of change
  • Participants gain support and additional skills to deal with daily living stressors that many men in recovery face
Helping Women Recover
  • Gender-specific women’s treatment group 
  • Follows Stephanie Covington’s Helping Women Recover: A Program for Treating Addiction, an evidence-based curriculum for treating women with histories of addiction and trauma 
  • Therapeutic strategies include psychoeducational, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, expressive arts and relational approaches
  • Participants should be in the action stage of change and have either completed a previous OP group or have a minimum of 90 days of sobriety
  • Random tox screens are conducted
  • Meets weekly in 60-minute group sessions
  • Participation length of time is based on individual needs 
Men’s Wellness-Building Resilience
  • Tuesdays 6-7 pm TELEHEALTH
  • Follows Stephanie Covington’s Building Resilience Curriculum to assist participants in gaining support and additional skills to deal with daily living stressors that many men in recovery face
  • Teaches about trauma and how widespread it is in men’s lives
  • Increases skills and resilience for healing and sustaining long-term recovery
  • Therapeutic strategies include psychoeducational, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, expressive arts and relational approaches
  • Participants should be in the action-maintenance stage of change and have either completed a previous OP group or have a minimum of 90 days of sobriety  
  • Random tox screens are conducted
  • Meets weekly in 60-minute group sessions 
  • Participation length of time is based on individual needs 
Step Down Group
  • Designed for those who do not fit the criteria for an Intensive Outpatient level of care, but can still benefit from the additional support 
  • Utilizes the second phase of Hazelden’s Living in Balance curriculum
  • Upon completion, participants meet with their counselor to come up with an individualized plan for continued care
  • Random tox screens are conducted
  • Meets twice weekly for six weeks in 60-minute group sessions 
Mental and Emotional Health Group
  • Uses evidence-based approaches including acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectal behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Teaches targeted exercises to build skills in managing a variety of mental health issues.
  • Topics covered include:
    • Recognizing signs and symptoms
    • Relating mental health to different areas of life
    • Identifying healthy coping strategies
    • Challenging negative thinking patterns
    • Practicing grounding and mindfulness techniques
    • Identifying healthy habits to enhance well-being
    • Developing assertive communication skills
    • Planning for ongoing support
  • Meets weekly in 60-minute group sessions
MI-CBT Group
  • Follows Beck’s Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Wagner and Ingersoll’s Motivational Interviewing In Groups
  • Teaches concepts such as identifying individual values and aspirations to create a sense of purpose and empowerment, and pursue goals  
  • Helps participants reach positive conclusions about themselves, others, and their futures 
  • Therapeutic strategies include psychoeducational, cognitive-behavioral, motivational, mindfulness, and relational approaches
  • Random tox screens are conducted
  • Meets weekly in 60-minute group sessions for 12 weeks
Grief Recovery Group
  • Follows Hazelden’s Emotional and Mental Health series curriculum 
  • Designed to help individuals who are grieving a loss, or a life transition recognize and process their feelings
  • Utilizes therapeutic interventions from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
  • Meets weekly for 24 weeks
Recovery Management
  • Follows Hazelden’s Living in Balance curriculum
  • Supports participants in learning and utilizing skills that are important to achieving and maintaining lifelong recovery from substance use and/or co-occurring disorders
  • Utilizes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, experiential, and other evidence-based approaches
  • Meets weekly in 60-minute group sessions
  • Participation length of time is based on individual needs
