McCall Behavioral Health Network Receives $5,000 Award from Liberty Bank Foundation for Digital Wellness

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TORRINGTON, Conn. – May 27, 2026 – The McCall Behavioral Health Network is proud to announce a $5,000 award from the Liberty Bank Foundation to provide McCall’s Digital Wellness education to the Greater Waterbury community at no cost.

The funding will support “Designed to Hook: A Guide to Digital Wellness,” an educational program that explores how social media platforms, smartphones, and digital technologies are intentionally designed to capture attention and influence behavior—particularly among youth. Through this initiative, McCall aims to help adults better understand the impact technology can have on attention, emotional well-being, learning, sleep, and healthy development, while offering practical tools to encourage healthier digital habits and stronger family and school connections.

“We are deeply grateful to the Liberty Bank Foundation for investing in this important work,” said Maria Coutant Skinner, LCSW, President and CEO of the McCall Behavioral Health Network. “Digital wellness is about more than screen time. It is about helping young people feel more connected, grounded, and supported in a world that can often feel overwhelming. This generous award helps McCall bring meaningful education and resources to the community in ways that promote resilience, healthier choices, and overall well-being.”

With support from the Liberty Bank Foundation, McCall will offer ten presentations throughout Waterbury and surrounding communities, including six professional development sessions for school faculty and four community presentations for parents and caregivers. Each 60–90-minute session will be led by McCall’s experienced, certified prevention staff and will include opportunities for discussion, reflection, and questions about the growing influence of technology on young people’s lives.

“Liberty Bank believes in being ‘Community Kind,’” said Tamika Goldson, the bank’s Retail Learning & Development Manager and a member of McCall’s Board of Directors. “Those aren’t just words. We do everything we can to help local communities. And for me, that’s more than just a phrase, it’s how we live, work, and serve every single day, especially in the very communities we call home. I’m excited about the impact we’re making by supporting the McCall Behavioral Health Network’s digital wellness program. This is about empowering our neighbors, our families, and our students with the tools they need to build healthy digital habits and stay connected in meaningful ways. Together, we’re not just supporting the community, we’re actively helping it thrive.”

For more than 50 years, McCall has provided behavioral health and wellness services across western Connecticut, offering a continuum of care that includes mental health and substance use treatment, prevention programming, family support, primary care, and community education. The award from the Liberty Bank Foundation strengthens McCall’s ability to continue adapting its services and outreach to meet the evolving needs of the communities it serves.
