– The program expedites support for substance use and mental health disorders.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(TORRINGTON, CT) – February 5, 2024 – The McCall Behavioral Health Network is excited to announce the launch of its new Open Access program in Torrington. Open Access is designed to address the immediate needs of individuals seeking help for substance use and mental health disorders. With the implementation of this program, clients can expect expedited scheduling for their initial screenings, and, in certain instances, they may secure appointments on the same day as their initial contact.
“Open Access will streamline the intake process, ensuring that individuals seeking assistance for substance use and mental health disorders can access our services promptly,” notes Maria Coutant Skinner, LCSW, McCall’s President & CEO. “By removing barriers to care and providing expedited screenings, we aim to reach clients at the peak of their readiness for behavioral healthcare. This initiative reflects our dedication to ensuring that high quality, compassionate care is readily available to all those who reach out to us.”
Here’s how it works: Community members are asked to first reach out to McCall at 860.496.2100. After an initial phone screening that takes approximately twenty minutes, they will be apprised of the next available Open Access time slot. Individuals can arrive anytime within their time slot. Waiting times may vary. They will need to bring a photo ID as well as their insurance card.
McCall’s Open Access hours are as follows:
- Monday: 12:30 till 2:30 p.m.
- Tuesday: 12:30 p.m. till 5:30 p.m.
- Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. till 2:30 p.m.
- Friday: 8:30 a.m. till 10:30 a.m.
It’s important to note that while this service is a valuable resource for those seeking mental health support, it is not intended for individuals experiencing an extreme mental health crisis. In such cases, immediate medical attention at a hospital emergency room is strongly recommended.
McCall estimates that the average visit for a first-time client would last approximately an hour and a half to two hours. The on-site visit begins with the completion of the initial paperwork and a toxicology screening. Then, the client will meet with a clinician to complete a comprehensive intake assessment and biopsychosocial. At the end of the visit, a treatment recommendation will be made, and an individualized treatment plan will be completed with the client to best meet their needs.
“By offering Open Access,” Ms. Coutant Skinner adds, “we hope to break down barriers to care, ensuring that those seeking support can easily connect with our services. It’s a perfect example of how we strive to make sure care is accessible to all.”
