Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Celebrates Grand Opening of McCall’s new Hanson House residential treatment house for women in recovery
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TORRINGTON, Conn. – June 6, 2025 – The McCall Behavioral Health Network is proud to announce the grand opening of its newly renovated Hanson House, a residential treatment facility designed specifically for women seeking recovery. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 176 Migeon Avenue in Torrington. U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal is scheduled to attend the event.
Made possible by $325,000 in 2023 Congressional Discretionary Spending through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the new Hanson House represents a transformative step forward in McCall’s ability to provide trauma-informed, holistic care in an environment that promotes healing, privacy, and dignity.
“We are deeply grateful for the federal funding that made this renovation possible,” said Maria Coutant Skinner, LCSW, President and CEO of the McCall Behavioral Health Network. “This support has allowed us to create a setting that truly honors the strength and resilience of the women we serve. It’s more than a new building—it’s a space that communicates dignity, safety, and hope for every woman walking through our doors.”
“The McCall Behavioral Health Network’s Hanson House renovation, supported by $325,000 in federal funding, is a huge step forward for addiction recovery in our state. Their clients will be able to recover and heal in a safe place with dignity and comfort. I am deeply grateful for the incredible service Maria and her team provide Connecticut residents, and I will keep fighting for robust federal investments to support these programs,” said U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal.
The Hanson House program offers a comprehensive continuum of care, including 20 hours of clinical support per week, tailored specifically for women. The average length of stay is four months. The newly renovated facility now offers:
- Outdoor space to foster connection with nature, an essential part of recovery
- Increased space for residents, individual counseling, and family visits
- Purpose-designed rooms for yoga, meditation, and art therapy
- HIPAA-compliant offices for medical and clinical staff
- A family-friendly environment that supports reunification
“McCall does important work to help people struggling with substance use, and the newly renovated Hanson House will make sure their clients get the best care possible. I’ll continue working to secure federal investment for programs like this one,” said U.S. Senator Chris Murphy.
“The newly renovated Hanson House is a testament to the power of community. The facility will offer a hope for women overcoming substance use and mental health challenges. This expansion, bolstered by federal funding, underscores our commitment to ensuring the people of Western Connecticut have access to the compassionate care necessary to heal and thrive. The tireless dedication of McCall Behavioral Health Network is a true inspiration to our community,” said Congresswoman Jahana Hayes.
Since its launch, Hanson House has served more than 200 women, providing critical treatment and support as they rebuild their lives and rejoin their families and communities.
“For the past seven years, our dedicated team has done everything possible to provide compassionate, quality care in a space that was no longer meeting the growing needs of our clients,” said Joy Pendola, LMFT, LADC, Chief Clinical Officer at McCall. “Now, this beautiful new home finally gives us the environment our residents deserve—one where healing, connection, and transformation can flourish. It allows us to deliver evidence-based, trauma-informed care in a setting that supports the dignity, privacy, and recovery of every woman we serve.”
In addition to its expanded clinical benefits, this project also contributes to historic preservation efforts in the Torrington area. Located in the city’s historic district, the newly renovated Hanson House restores the beauty and integrity of a distinguished property while giving it new purpose as a haven for recovery. The thoughtful renovation honors the architectural character of the neighborhood and strengthens the cultural fabric of the community.
